Is Success Predictable?

Success just like failure is predictable. Think of any successful people in your circle of friends or connections. They probably have the traits below, you can add more in the comments section;

  • Hardworking
  • Persistent
  • Disciplined
  • Punctual/ Time Keeper
  • Diligent
  • Entrepreneurial
  • Industrious
  • Decisive
  • Self-motivated etc.

Now, think of people you consider as failures. Write down their traits;

  • Lazy
  • Indisciplenced
  • Procrastinator
  • Late comer
  • Complainer
  • Crybaby
  • Indecisive
  • Drunkard etc.

They say if five of your friends are failures, then you are the sixth; if five of your friends are millionaires, then you are the 6th. If you walk with successful people, chances are high that you’ll also be a success.

If the traits above are anything to go by, success is almost assured if you employ discipline in your everyday activity.

Note that all the success traits are internal factors, or generated by yourself. Many people like keeping a long blame list for their lack of success. You will hear if it was not for my nasty boss, my rich uncle, my mean cousin, taxes, lack of capital, no internet, small paycheck, lack of investors, cost of living, price of fuel, lack of government subsidies, etc.

If you analyze most of the blame list, it is based on external factors, which comprise the smallest percentage of our success factors

The success mindset requires that you walk a different path from the masses. Drop the blame list and take full responsibility for your success or lack thereof. That is why only 1% achieve success. They are willing to do what others are not willing to do in order to have what others won’t have. Achieving success is not an easy task for the masses. Decide that you are going to be part of the 1%.

My favorite book the bible talks about the Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13). The sower is a success story, he represents that farmer, athlete, manager, businessman, musician, director, presenter, influencer, corporate, manufacturer, restaurant, mall, supermarket, etc that you admire. Some lessons from the story;

  1. You might not be successful the first time – some seeds fell on rocky ground, some were eaten by birds, and some fell on the path, some fell on thorns and did not produce any harvest)
  2. Be disciplined and persistent – the farmer continued to sow his seed even with the failures and it eventually produced a crop 30, 60, and 100% of what was sown.
  3. There will be a difference in results – Some seeds will produce 30, 60, and 100 times the input. Do not stress yourself if your friend has better results than you. Soon you’ll be there. Focus on improving your daily discipline.
